The Nike Air 180 is poised to make a boisterous return thanks to Japanese fashion house COMME des Garcons. Three colorways of the original running shoe born in 1991 will hit select retailers beginning on February 1st, with each of the three options containing Laser Pink nylon uppers and Solar Red logos, external heel counters, and Air Bag housings. The only feature differentiating the three is the overlay tones, which appear in white, black, or pink. The Air 180 isn’t one to receive many collaborations, as the only ones that may immediately come to mind are creations by French sneaker boutique Oqium, the now-defunct Nom de Guerre, and of course Kanye West.
Japanese fashion house COMME des Garcons is set to releasing their next Nike collaboration on February 1st in three pink-toned colorways. Originally debuting last June during the label’s Homme Plus SS18 fashion show, the Air Max 180 CDG keeps Tinker Hatfield’s original design and applies the vibrant Laser Pink in three options. COMME des Garcons typically reworks the model and adds aesthetic modifications (their Vapormax and Dunk collaborations from this year alone are telling), so consider these rather out of the ordinary for the forward-thinking designer.
While some early pairs of the COMME des Garcons x Nike Air 180 leaked in early January, the vibrant collection’s official release is fast approaching. Primarily adorned in Laser Pink with Solar Red logos, heel counters, and Air Bag units, each selection boasts a different colored overlay that dramatically alters the aesthetic make-up of each offering. While seldom-used in the past, it appears that the 180 will be enjoying a bit of a resurgent 2018 campaign that is highlighted by this pairing, but also will be featured in an Ultramarine colorway tomorrow. Big name collaborations the likes of one with this illustrious Japanese fashion house are a surefire way to send a jolt of attention onto a sneaker.
